I downloaded the youtube downloader from youtube-d.com and it says I need to download a video codec if I hear sound and no video. What codec do I need and where do I get it?

If I download divx, how do I use it to get the codec, or what do I do to with it to make the video work?

by the default the codec is in most versions of windows. But if the video was encoded with DIVX (MPEG4) or XVID you will need to download the codec to view the video.

To see what it was encoded with:
Open MyComputer
Find the file
Right Click on it
Choose Properties
Click the Summary Tab
at the bottom you will see Video Compression

That will tell you what it was encoded with. Since there are literally hundreds of encoders, and folks don't always choose the most popular, things get kinda babelized.
