Try a softcoated wheaten terrier. My husband has bad allergies and hasn't had a problem with a friend's wheaten. However, they are very expensive.

It depends on how your allergies are. Some people find themselves more allergic to poofy dogs (chows, pomeranians) regardless of the fact a short haired terrier sheds more. Short wire haired coats shed constantly. But your allergies may have nothing to do with how much it sheds.

You need to just spend some time around *clean* (you can't tell at an animal shelter) dogs of different types and figure out what your allergies stem from. Dander, saliva, do you find that dogs that shed more cause your allergies to be worse. I know my mother is far more allergic to dogs that shed than she was to our poodle mix that hardly ever shed. Lhasas are low shedding as well.

But while I dont agree with the way it was said, the prior poster was correct. There is no such thing as a hypoallergenic dog. It is merely a marketing ploy. Now there are some dogs that as a percentage *fewer* Americans are allergic to. But that doesn't make them hypallergenic. They have now clinically created cats that are--but if it was born from an animal, then humans can be allergic to it. And each persons allergies are different, with different triggers.

Nope. Lots of terriers have rough wiry coats, and many have smooth coats. Both shed.
