As an experimental aircraft you can install any engine the builder desires because there are no required standards for experimental aircraft. I have a list of all homebuilt aircraft and the Firebird is listed in it, but that does not mean it does not exist. I have certificated all kinds of aircraft with all kinds of engines. The Corvair engine is air cooled like many certificated aircraft engines. Builder want air-cooled engines because of weight and many will use a VW engine lightweight air-cooled. The Corvair engine fit in the category also.

The "Firebird" is the call sign of a Bell UH-1B helicopter gunship used in Vietnam. Also known as a "Huey" it is powered by a Lycoming T53-L-11 turboshaft engine.
