I received an application for Allstate 24 hour road service for $26 a year. Has anyone had experience with this they can share? I am already an Allstate customer and have had very good service from them on auto insurance over many years.

Sorry I misquoted the price. It's $52. I have compared the price to AAA, and for the same basic service, Allstate seems to be a better choice.

AAA is much more than Allstate, however, you GET MORE benefits with AAA then you do with Allstate. You have access to TONS of FREE SERVICES from AAA, such as maps, trip planners, guidebooks to destinations, but you also receive TONS of discounts from retailers such as Lens Crafters, Target, Barnes & Noble, hotels, restaurants, and other places. This you DON'T get with Allstate. If you utilize the discounts, known as Show Your Card and Save, the discounts more than make up for the cost of membership. And before you ask, you do not receive any additional discounts on your insurance for joining their roadside plan. Go to aaa.com and enter your zip code to learn more.

Road assistance is valuable protection. If you break down, get stuck in mud/snow, run out of gas, have a flat tire, etc., they will come and assist you with no out of pocket cost.

Before you buy the Allstate protection, check to see if road service is included in your current auto insurance plan or as part of your new car warranty if applicable. There is no sense paying twice for the same coverage. Also, I suggest checking out AAA. They are more expensive, but you get a lot of extras including nice discounts at different places, nifty road trip maps and goodies (you can often visit an AAA office and get them on the spot rather than having to mail off for them), free maps and guides, etc.

I use AAA and it's worth the money if nothing more than peace of mind. One towing charge for a breakdown or flat will offset the price of the road service annual fee alone. Check with other companies like AAA for comparison prices and what you get for the money but 26.00 is cheap...they may have other prices for different coverage packages like hotel stay for problems out of town or lockout/run out of gas, jump start, etc.

It will be good if they wont cancel your insurance after you use it several times I would ask them that.
