go to your local rescue. there is sure to be at least one dog there that will melt your heart and make you their own. screw the breed label, go for love

It depends on what you want the dog for...
Boxers a great guard dogs but don't tend to get along with other dogs and small children from my experience. Golden retrievers are great family pets...generally friendly to everyone in the house, but they need alot of excercise.

My neighbour has a cocker spaniel and she is a great dog...she is friendly, curious and is good with children. They still need excercise but not as much as a big dog. The only down side is that she is mortified of other dogs...not sure if it's the breed or it's just her that is like that.
In my opinion...if you really want a dog, why not give an unwanted dog a loving home. Animal shelters have lots of different breeds and mixed breeds to choose from. That way you will be getting a dog that you want...and also giving a dog a fresh start.

I love dogs, i sometimes find their company a lot better then friends, families etc. I am only 18 at the moment but i would defiantly think about producing good herding dogs - Border Collies. I live on a farm with my parents and currently i own one BC - Skye and my parents have two. I chose BC's because they are one of the most intelligent dog breeds, and keep me fit with all the exercise they need. They can also be quite challenging at times which i like, but they are usually hard working and co-operative. I would simply buy good quality pups from a good working blood line, train them well to herd and compete in herding trails. IF my dogs had won several titles then and only then i *might* consider breeding them if i had a healthy, champion dog and bltch. I'd have all the necessary health checks done and make sure i can do it financially. That is a might though and i'm talking 20-25 years! Then with the litters i would sell some at 10-12 weeks fully vacc, keep one or two to train up to be herding dogs which i would then sell to other farmers when ready around 18months of age, possibly keeping one or both of them for myself depending on if they are needed on our farm. That is my plan at the moment :) Whether i'll stick to it.. i'm not sure yet :)

You may want to look into how active each one is. I know goldens are very hiper until about age 5 or so. Then they are very calm. Are you an active person or would you rather a dog that is calm and sleeps all day. There are many good sites that will help you out. Just search under the particular breed. This is a big decision so put alot of thought into it. Good luck.

Get a cat. They don't need walks, you don't need to pick up their poop, they're great company around the house. They don't make the house smell. You can't hold or cuddle dogs the same as you can with cats either- rag-doll cats are amazing- they just flop in your arms ^.^
...I bet that wasn't much help really cos you're looking for a dog so personally- I'd go for a Golden Retriever, they live longer, they're friendlier with children, easy to groom, fun to take for walks cos they always retrieve things ^^ Oh- and they're really far prettier things than Pugs or Boxer dogs.
My best friend had two golden retrievers- they're great :D
Good luck with your new pet whichever you get :)

It depends, do you live in a small apartment or a house with a yard, do you have small children, will you have time to take it for walks everyday or will it get it's exercise in the yard/house? Do you have time to groom it everyday (long haired dogs)? Pugs tend to have breathing problems because of the shape of their faces. Cocker Spaniels tend to get protective as they get older, Retrievers and Boxers need a lot of exercise to keep from getting bored. I don't know much about Apsos.

Trick question?
The Golden Retriever is the only real dog in your list.

golden retriever. DEFINATLY. cocker spaniels are cute..yes, but they have WAAAYY to many health issues, whether its their ears or seizures. it seems like every cocker i know (and thats about 7) ALL have health problems. and 4 of them have anger issues and sometimes try to bite if you do something to make them mad. now im not knocking the breed. because i do know some little sweethearts that are so cute and cuddley..(if you can get past the smell in their ears. my favorite breed anyways is golden retriever..well, from you list it is

all totally different breeds.

1). Lhasa Apso - heavy grooming requirements, not the easiest to train, not much exercise involved
2). Pug - ugly, small, fun breed, not much grooming, sheds alot though, medium exercise requirements, low food bill
3). Boxer- very active breed, high energy, lots of exercise/training needed
4). Golden- medium grooming, moderate exercise, easily trained, health problems , be selective with a breeder.
5). Cocker - high grooming needs, moderate exercise,, not the easiest to train either..

what are your requirements? what exactly do you want a dog for? how much time are you wanting to devote to the dog etc,???

There are so many wonderful dogs at the dog's home. I would look there first, rather than spending masses of money on a pedigree. There may even be one of the breeds you like, but if not, I am sure you could give a homeless dog a loving home.
