WTF!? Whats wrong with people these days cant they take the truth?

I do , but many others don't because they are
all about pleasing themselves & they don't care
if they have to lie to others just to make themselves happy , sad to say
you did the RIGHT thing & too bad for your
manager if she can't deal w/ the truth
NO it's NOT worth it to go back for an hour
& I hope you get the new job , your manager @ this job sounds like she needs to grow up !

Honesty is a good trait, though it must be balanced with tact.
That is you could have just asked for the afternoon off for personal reasons. This is a honest statement, you get what you want and your manager does not feel she is going to loose you.
Your manager's motivation is to keep the work flowing and your motivation is to get a steady job, so these have some conflicting ideas. She should be professional and not slam you but that doesn't stop you from being professional.

Hmm,My only question to you would be this.
Are you going to use the company you are working for now for a reference? If you are I would be careful. This posit on u r at now could of turn the tables on the one you were interviewed for.Its called "Work Ethics."And if you don't use them it may bite you in the butt. They don't want to hear you are looking for another job, even if u r a Temp. And from the employers point of view,If you didn't return to work for that hour. You aren't a good employee and their reference may not be good.I know there is a law that says they aren't aloud to give "bad" ones but it is still done. They just keep it between themselves.

People with mental health issues tend to rise quickly in management, and these managers interpret an employee looking for a job elsewhere as a personal affront against them. Don't take it personally.

this has nothing to do with weather or not she appreciates honesty... this woman doesn't like the idea because you're working there, she probably wanted to keep you there, and then you tell her "I'm going to an interview"...even if you told them it's only temporary (beforehand), it's not a wise thing to say...in other cases saying that would cost you your job.
I'm not bashing you..I'm just saying you have to be careful.

Honesty is largely incompatible with a number of things that we value more - religious beliefs, political positions, our preference for our own family over others, etc.
I do think that basic honesty is almost completely unvalued today. I couldn't agree more with you.

Being honest is the only way to tell who others really are. If they can't handle truth they are ignorant. And you should stay away from ignorant people because they are dangerous.

That was just one instance and one individual. Many people prefer honesty although they may not always love the truth.
