If Jesus is God, then he didn't die for us. There is no sacrifice if you are a God and know that you will keep on existing. The definition of a sacrifice means that you have to have the chance of loosing something. God's cant loose anything. It makes zero sense.

Yes we are still sinners. Jesus died to redeem us from sin back to God. We are human and still have human natures. We try to live as God leads us but sometimes the old sinful nature gets the best of us and so daily we must seek forgiveness, mercy and restoration. Jesus died that we might have eternal life with God. This is a daily process of becoming more Christ like and less me like until we are restored to the Father in heaven we will never attain total holiness. Being set part to God makes us holy. We are not made holy by good deeds but by faith in Christ.

Do not expect the benefits of Jesus work to have full and immediate effects.
He spoke of his organization becoming corrupted for a time.
Acts20:29 states: "After my going away oppressive wolves will enter in among YOU and will not treat the flock with tenderness, and from among YOU yourselves men will rise and speak twisted things to draw away the disciples after themselves."
This sad situation would last till "the end times".
There is good reason to believe we are already in the end times.
That means Jesus has already cleaned-up the heavens:
Revelation 12:7
"And war broke out in heaven: Mi′cha·el and his angels battled with the dragon, and the dragon and its angels battled  but it did not prevail, neither was a place found for them any longer in heaven."
The dragon being satan.
Now, Jesus is overseeing the work mentioned at Mark 13:10
"Also, in all the nations the good news has to be preached first."
Once that work has been done to Jesus' satisfaction, Armaggedon!
That leaves opportunity to fulfill Psalm 37:29
"The righteous themselves will possess the earth,
And they will reside forever upon it."
This is a long-term project.
Do not look for quick fixes.

No, you are thinking in the natural.

Jesus' work on the cross was "spiritual." Because of His death and resurrection, we can now have eternal life and go boldly before the Throne of God. It had to be done this way. That is the gift to mankind. It is also called HOPE, something we did not have before.

Jesus died to cleanse us from our sins and paid for God's judgment for our sins. He gives us His righteousness and we become sons of God. We can crucify our sinful nature with his death on the cross so that we will sin no more. For by doing this we died to sin (Romans 6:2). Christians still sin because they have not put to death their sinful nature by the power of the cross and live the new creation life in Christ Jesus (Galatians 2:20).

The difference is through Faith. One cannot make to to Heaven on one's own, by "doing good," because we are fallen and continue to be fallen.

Saint Paul says, in Romans 4:5: "However, to the man who does not work but trusts God who justifies the wicked, his faith is credited as righteousness."

In other words, if you don't try to "work" your way to Heaven, and trust that Jesus has done the work FOR you on the Cross, your sins are forgiven.

When God looks down upon a Christian, He does not see the "filthy rags" of righteousness by works. He sees Jesus in our place: Christians have "washed" themselves in Jesus' blood, and by that we are made clean. Hence during this life God has forgiven our sins, and in the next we will be given new bodies that are not fallen.

This, of course, does not mean that we should not try to be "good," because it makes God happy to see us try, but basically our fallen or sinful state, though it still exists underneath the "clothes" of Jesus' Righteousness, is cancelled out because we "put on" Jesus and have the Holy Spirit in our heart. What has really changed is we are no longer going to be punished for the sinning of our fallen body.

I suggest you read Romans, Chapter 4. :)

Jesus paid the price for us. When Adam sinned it put a chasm between us and God. We needed a connector, a bridge.

Before Christ died for us we had to try to be perfect by following the LAW of Moses. We had to sacrifice animals to repent of our sins in order to gain favor with God. God does not accept sin. You cannot have sin and enter heaven.

It was impossible b/c no one can be perfect without the power of the Holy Spirit.

When Christ died for us, His blood covered our sins.

When you repent of your sins and believe that Christ is the son of God, died on the cross and rose again, and you accept HIm as your savior, the Holy Spirit lives in you.

The Holy Spirit has the power of Christ to help you to be holy. When you sin, you can ask forgiveness.

When you die, Christ will be there standing beside you as you face God. You will live in heaven forever instead of living in hell forever.

Jesus was the first to break the cycle of materialism and return to God. So what was changed? We now have an example on how to return to God. If we follow the way, the path, the truth we will return to God.

We don't have to go through a priest, but have direct access to speak to God. In addition, Jesus sacrifice took care of the death penalty that we deserved, giving us right standing with
God.
