in the above mentioned track by the great smokey robinson..do you think he is genuinely addressing his true love,or that he's singing to the 3 or 4 women that the lyric implies he's seeing at the one time??????

Probably 3 or 4, he's male. Ooops, sorry, I think I might be a bit bitter today! I heard it's about one woman, the love of his life but I'm not convinced.

Although Smokey Robinson wrote this song and many others, you DO know that it was actually the Temptations who recorded it and had a #1 hit with it back in '65, I think it was - don't you?!

If you really listen to the lyrics, ("people say I'm the life of the party, 'cause I tell a joke or two, though I'm laughing loud and hearty, deep inside I'm blue...") you will realize that he is lamenting his lost love ("my smile is my make-up I wear since my break-up with you....")!

Songs like this bring back a time when you could understand what they were singing about, and it all made SENSE!!!

I heard rumors that Smokey was cheating on his wife with Diana Ross (boy she sure did get around), and that is what ended his marriage, so I think it was just being all emo, and came up with yet another catchy Motown hit.
