About 5%, the rest is urban legend. I think maybe a guy called jesus did exist and if he lived nowadays he would probably be a David Blane or David Copperfield style magician

The prophets in the Bible did exist. They are Historical. But lot of the verses in the Bible are non- scientific. The Bible says the earth is flat. It does not mention that the earth is like a sphere. In the Genesis again it says vegetation on the 3rd day and the sun is created on the 4th day. These non scientific verses prove that it was not written By a divine, supernatural force which we call God.
If it was written By God then it would have no mistakes in it. God would have mentioned that man would be able to reach the moon. The earth is a sphere. he would have described a correct theory about evolution unlike Genesis.

Again religion is based on beliefs rather than scientific facts. If someone believes in religion that is fine with me.

I think a good bit of it is as historical as it was possible to be at the time it was written. When they tell of this or that king, the battles and the things that sound historical, remember that you are getting the report of someone who wrote it down quite a long time after it happened, and probably was not an eyewitness. Much, of course, is clearly mythological, such as the origin stories. And of course much of what is written about Jesus is distorted by what the apostles remembered, and by what they attempted to convey. Then, too, modern translations may or may not convey the meaning of the original authors.

As a Bible literalist, neither I am an optimist or pessimist. I am
just a hard-boiled realist. If God did not mean what He said in the Bible, why did He say it? Maturity is a glorious harmony in the midst of complexity. More than 40 years of reading the Bible I just understand that the only right interpreter of the Bible is the Bible itself. How long have you been reading the Bible to also understand it? or to twist it?

I think all of it is historical, its just that different cultures have different ways of speaking and understanding life and transcendant ideas that are so vey different from our modern culture. Hence, they sound so strange to us that we automatically infer that "this can't be true", or "they didn't meann that literally, did they?". Any time alot of symbolism is used in any ancient writing, misunderstanding and incredulity are usually the first response by the reader. The test, though, is to ascertain how much of what's been written corresponds to actual events in the world, and much of the history recorded in the Bible is also recorded in other, secular, sources as well. Many years ago when I was in high-school, our "Ancient Cultures History" course covered the destruction of Jerusalem by the Roman general Titus- a prophetic event foretold by Christ Himself.

I don't have all the facts, but I think that Jesus undoubtedly existed, and so did the Israelites. Of course the way people recorded history back then wasn't as accurate as today, so we have to read the Bible with that perspective.

ALL of it is Historical. Take the time to read it with Spiritual Understanding and you will see that it is. If you need any help, please let me know. I have been reading and studying for years on end and there is something NEW everyday to learn. ALL Scripture is God Breathed, and it is like a Pregnant Woman as it grows and grows. NO INSULTS Intended, just an example. Hope you understand along with all my Sisters in Christ.

I don't think any of it is actually historical in the true sense of the word. All of it has been pretty well mythologized, which is to say it may have some symbolic truths contained therein, but well hidden.
