I remember the first time I saw the Jackson 5 on Andy Williams, I couldn't enjoy it because it was these five guys dancing, and two of them were kids, and it just blew a fuse in my head. Next, I saw a picture of Isaac Hayes, and I thought, thats not right. He's bald, and he's wearing sunglasses. Then I saw Sly at Woodstock, and I thought, these guys are about ten years ahead of anybody else in this show.
I finally came to the conclision that black musicians lead the way, as far as popular music is concerned, They always have and they probably alwways will.
BTW, Jimi was my bridge into black music, Thank God.

You are scared of the unknown...not xenophobic by your words...it's like being surrounded by skinheads when you are a long-hair..that's dangerous! You need to learn to be comfortable in your own skin..no-one is really the enemy,only bad ideas promulgated by ignorant people for their own ends .Screw Sly Stewart...making the crowd wait till he was coked enough for a Great performance...not professional but still a great show...I was 12 when Jimi,my ULTIMATE hero,stirred me up ...we both ate tomato sauce sandwiches when poor...as far as I am concerned,oppression creates a deep artistic release...this happens to any race..the rembetika of downtrodden Greeks and Turks..blues of the Mediterrean..Black musicians are not scary to me...only being refused entry into a club in Oakland by a black bouncer.."..are you crazy,honky..you can't come in here.."..I thought it must have been my clothes or something..the music I heard attracted my spider senses..to no avail..he was probably trying to protect me...wish I could have told him how I played harp with Willie Dixon in '73 at the Whiskey Au Go-Go,King's Cross,Sydney..head full of Durban poison and a half gut full of bourbon.."..skin,skin,skin....that's what yawl wrapped (up) in..".Everyday people me...wishing they'd melt the machine guns away..away...away....Soul power!

Do you feel offended when you are called a honkey or do you just laugh at the term? The word N***** was used in a derrogatory manner to put down, dehumanize and insult black slaves, to make them feel like they were worth nothing. Therefore all these negative emotions are attached to the word. There is nothing negative attached to the word honkey. It's just a general term like "New Yorkers" or "Surfers". You should read up some more on black history and see how traumatic this period was, and then maybe you won't ask such ignorant, insensitive questions.

What is really scary is this; all the major musical trends in the last century or so in the US, have been instigated by black people, often with offensive lyrics, jazz, blues, rock and roll and disco all started this way. Now these styles are mainstream. This means that one day the Philharmonic Orchestra will be playing rap and hip hop.

~~~ Hi Doc K.I.A. !! Gosh, for a kitten you seem to go WAY BACK. You must've attended the Woodstock Festival in one of your past nine lives huh. I remember The Jackson Five. My friends had posters of them on their bedroom walls. I threw darts at Michael. Is that ironic or what? Jimi Hendrix rocks!!11/27/42---9/18/70 R.I.P. He died at the young age of 27. Too bad.Jimi is recognized as one of the greatest and most influential guitarists in rock history. After his initial success in England he achieved world wide fame following his 1967 performance at the Monterey Pop Festival. He later headlined at the iconic Woodstock Festival in 1969. I was too young to attend myself, BUTT!! my dead husband did. He was alive then, so he enjoyed it. Haha! Hey Doc, is Bob Marley black? I mean was he? R.I.P. Bob He croaked in 1981 of cancer. That was the year my husband and I met,so I didn't have a chance. Cliff hated Reggae. Now I listen to it all I want......everyday. It doesn't scare me.~~~
don't know if you are a musician yourself,don't know if you
are speaking for other people. If you are a musician perhaps
you can have some personal time speaking with black
musicians, you know, get to know these "scary people".
If you are not a musician try to get to know some anyway.
Try listening to their music and not think. Just listen
It's all good. Good Luck
I don't think it's a race thing so much as a change thing. Some people don't like change and show it more than others, haha.
Entertainment is universal.
Plus we've got all the cool and rhythm, according to our stereotype...so we took that and ran with it. And beat everyone else because we're really good at sports, too.
