why do so many dog owners insist on feeding their dogs human food? are they just retarded or intent on killing their animals??

heres SOME (not all) foods that can kill your dog-
chocolate, milk, ALL stone fruit, most nuts (inlcuding almonds!), mushrooms, caffiene, tomatoes, grapes/raisins, anything high in sugar, anything high in fat (including strips of fat from meat), onions, garlic, baby food, yeast dough and pretty much every human junk food available, cooked bones....

heres some that can cause deficiencies or make them very sick -
raw eggs, raw fish, salty foods, potato and root vegetables, cooked meat (more specifically, bbqed or grilled).

feed your dog dry dog food, large raw bones and lean raw (or boiled with the fat skimmed off) meat - its really not a difficult concept ... its not rocket science!

why would you risk feeding it human food at all when you never, ever have to???

their next questions will probably be "why is my dog dead/ have bloat/ have diabetes/ need pancreatal surgery/ have nerve problems?"

I think many of them are misinformed either based on things they have seen in movies, cartoons, television, or things they heard from family or friends. Anyone who has picked up a single book on dog care (and actually read it) would know those things are big no-nos.

To be honest, I've never even gone to look at some of the responses to the following question, which I have seen posted multiple times:
"Is it ok to put a raw egg over my dog's food?"
Where on earth did that get started? And how do people actually respond to that question? Next time I see it, I will look.

The one factor that may encourage people to feed odd things to their dogs is seeing what their dogs have eaten on their own. For example, one time I was eating some grapes and a few fell on the floor. My GSD was there in a flash and just ate the grapes! To me, it would seem that grapes are ok. They're just fruit, very simple fruit at that (ie. not something fibrous like a prune or, as you mention, a stone fruit like a cherry). And, since he didn't get sick, one could infer that grapes are ok.

But, I do agree with you that anyone with a shred of common sense should know better than to give most of the foods you have listed to a dog.

I'll admit...I've given mine table food. We don't anymore, haven't for a while. I've read a lot on the raw diet. But I think we are going to stick to the regular food, and maybe add some raw to it. I would really like to give them the raw bones. Can they have any raw bones? Are there any they cannot have? They love raw meat. I make them frozen meatballs in the summer time. They make good treats.

I have had dogs as long as I can remember , and I never gave them scraps from the table. Dry food worked for them. That together with fresh water and long walks for exercise kept them in great shape.

I know what you are saying. But dogs have made it for so long on this planet with all the cross breeding and stuff, its amazing the some dogs are fed such ill foods.

We can't police ourselves cause that leads to violating privacy rights. But we can report abuse.

Raspberryswirrrrl, your use of the non-word 'pancreatal' makes me wonder yet again if you're really a vet.

Also I think a vet would understand client's way of thinking a little better - many people don't KNOW that these foods are harmful. That's not rocket science either.

I've always feed my animals human food and none of them ever had ANY health problems. Well at least not until my neighbor hit one of my cats with their car and a coyote ate another one but I highly doubt that has anything to do with their diet.

Yes, they are retarded. Definitely ignorant. I would imagine these people have absolutely no idea what their putting into their own body too, thinking their actually eating real food and drinking real drinks. Easily controlled individuals, poor Fido.

LOL!

i don't feed my dogs dog food because of the disgusting ingredients in it. I feed them fried eggs, natural dog biscuits, and bread. They are the healthiest dogs and never have had any health probs. I've had one for 6 years and the other for 3 weeks. That's all they've ever been fed while i've owned them. They get plenty of beef and chicken bones, and meat as well. All of our scraps go to the dogs or our chickens.

I agree. Some people are stupid. I guess they just think its easier or cheaper to give their dogs left overs.
