An "average" spider wouldn't tell you much, because there is a wide range of ages among the different groups and species of spiders. The more common "small" spiders, like garden spiders, house spiders, widow spider, etc. can live up to 5 years. I raised one house spider from an egg and it lived to be a little over 4 years old before it escaped because I was careless. But some tarantulas can live up to about 30 years. The average age of any spider group depends on many different factors. Spiders that live in captivity will usually live much longer, and females usually live longer than males. It can be anywhere from 1-30 years. Hope that helps some.

The average spider has a life span depending on its size. The Goliath Birdeater Tarantula in Australia has a lifespan of 5-8 years(largest spider in the world). Orb weavers should have a life span of about 9 months, until snow comes. House spiders have a life span of maybe 1 month to 3 months.
Wolf spiders have a life span of maybe 5 to 12 months, but they're ground hunters. Some spiders live much longer. But not to fear. As long as you leave them to their meals, you shouldn't have to worry about a thing. If you see a black widow spider, capture an image of it if you like spiders, but don't try and kill it. You could fail, which could result in your death. They are more aggressive attackers than any other spider in North America. Hundreds of people get bitten by black widows a year, but luckily only a small fraction of those allergic to them actually die.

There are over 40,000 species of spider worldwide varying widely in size & lifespan. The massive ones in your bathroom shouldn't live as long as some of the tarantulas do (over 30 years in some species) which should bring at least some measure of comfort to you.
