Before you question my ethics, i'm a father and a law student, never been in trouble before...however i do know of a couple sex offenders that turned thier lives around. Reading responses like I just read makes me wonder, who has the mental issues, the conventional sex offender or the people who scream death, castration and hate. Would your responses all be the same if it was your own grown child(16+) who is the sex offender? I bet everyone would sing a different tone then.
Now i'll speak from a more legal viewpoint. First off, not all sex offenders are child molestors or rapists or whatever, in fact, at least 50% of them are neither of the two. Some are young guys who made a mistake, and damned for life because of it. These guys currently do time in prison(usually years), when released on parol they have to complete treatment as one of the conditions. Statistics show only 5% of the guys who go through this process reoffend.
But then hate groups and stupid politicians seeking votes play the card, and create more laws, many of which defy the Constitution of the United States....such as telling them where to live after they complete thier sentence, putting them on the scarlet letter(Internet Registry) which makes it even harder for them to find a place to live, but also triggers panic in communities and makes it hard for them to find a job....leaving them with no choice but welfare. more than 80% of offenses are in the home and is someone the family knows(or is a member of the family)....but this .0001% who found thier victim online, will cause all offenders of all types to lose access to the internet according to recent laws in the states.
Despite all this, all attention is on sex offenders....and are considered the biggest threats to our children....tell that to the parents who lost thier child in a school shooting, or a drunk driver or an over dose on drugs which they aquired at school. Politicians have Americans fooled. I'm all for increasing penalties such as increased jail time, but once a person does there time, regardless of what they did, it should be over. Reason I say this is because today it might be Sex Offenders losing thier rights, but it's probably just a doorway which will eventually cause any single American who opposes the government to lose these very same rights. When that American takes it to court, they will say, "Well, it was okay to do it to Sex Offenders, so why not you?". This is the world you people are creating.
I already know I wont get the best answer for this, even though it probably really is the best answer so far as the rest are hate answers....but thats not what i'm aiming for here. I'm just making a point, and those who dont see that point, well it's gonna be thier loss sooner or later.

Well technically my husband was a sex offender when I started dating him (statutory rape). I think it's stupid to say "castrate" as soon as you hear sex offender. Sorry but how exactly do you castrate a woman?? Weird how so many women are for the prosecution of male sex offenders but fail to realize that there are as many if not more female sex offenders who get off without even a day in court. A bit odd if you ask me...A jail term is sufficient enough for those who are actually brought to justice. Shouldn't be any different then any other crime no matter how disgusting it is.

I was going to point out the inherent sexism that the majority of people who answered this question have but Ominous seems to have beaten me to it.
Anyway, the people here who said castration ( of which I'm going to extend to castration or removal of internal ovaries) are being stupid.
Jail time is an effective manner of rehabilitation.
In Ireland, sexual offenders are the group which are the least likely to reoffend after being released from jail compared to other crimes.
Jail time is a very effective punishment.

Sex offenders=men?
No. The why are the women here all assuming it's a male? It's things like that that make women go free because no one has thought to give them a punishment. Unless of course they're happy to have surgery to have their ovaries removed. Or maybe we could put cement in their hole. Sounds like a fair punishment for both genders if you want to go that way.
I think castration is WAY too harsh. Just send them to jail. That's enough. Maybe increase the jail time but that's it.
Have a good day.

i might want to assert so. As you're saying, they have already served their time, subsequently it truly is in simple terms further punishment. there's a particular stigma linked with some being categorized a sex criminal, regardless of what the crime they rather committed became. there are various of archaic regulations around the country as to what constitutes a sex crime, and it truly is no longer unavoidably honest for someone who committed a "non-crime" to be compelled to stay this similar punishment as someone who committed the better heinous stuff. for instance, there are regulations the position it truly is a sex crime to swear contained in the presence of a minor. Is that ever enforced? unlikely, yet that would not rather count number (spanking a baby publicly may be enforced and deemed a sex crime). the actuality that those might want to carry an same stigma as a rapist surely isn't suitable. it truly is one ingredient to have regulation enforcement save a watch on someone who might want to doubtlessly be at risk of recommitting an offense. it truly is fairly yet another although to publicly tell each body in an section that someone is a sex criminal. i have by no potential considered that unquestionably better upon by technique of exclaiming what the guy unquestionably did, so maximum might want to by no potential recognize. and also you may want to't placed it previous human beings to take concerns into their own hands and carry out their own form of vigilante justice in accordance with a lack of practise (there's a sex criminal of their section, and they don't love it, regardless of the info they could by no potential were instructed). So by technique of exclaiming this to the community, you do in actuality endanger the existence of that distinct, which isn't the position for the state once the guy's time has been served. As such, publicly shaming someone, fairly one which is unquestionably replaced having served their time or one which purely committed a "non-crime," might want to be no longer some thing less than cruel and unusual punishment (a time period I do trust is used way too a lot, yet is ideal the following). could they be saved a watch on by technique of regulation enforcement? surely. Does the community want to understand? surely no longer.

First off....juvenile offenders or adult offenders??? Furthermore, if physical mutilation is the only thing this society has to offer to such a problem, then it must be ok for me to shoot those that I deem unfit for society. Sound ludacris?? If so, then maybe theres hope, if not? Good thing ammo sells in bulk and extended clips are once again easily obtainable!!!!! Have a wonderful day! 8o)

Oh I would say they should wear some sort of a scarlet letter and or letters that say SO for sexual offender, on their person some place where the public can see it. In addition to have a tracking bracelet on them for the rest of their lives. That sort of thing. A life time probation officer they have to report to; all of this in addition to the stiff jail term they'd be facing. This is for a first offense, not for a second or a third a life time life-sentence in jail and let their fellow inmates have at them. There is nothing worse in the joint than a child molester. Most guys and gals in the joint love children and nothing angers them more than a child molester. Years ago when Jerry Turner was incarcerated in Taycheedah they had him under close guard 24/7/365 or his fellow inmates would have torn him apart, most likely would have killed him.
