Ok, I know this is going to sound really odd, but I'm stumped and could use some suggestions or ideas.

I have a two year old and a five month old baby. My last known period was in July of 04, right before I conceived my two year old. I obviously ovulated after I had her because I became pregnant again when she was about 8 months old, but I didn't have a period.

Well now that I have had my 5 month old, I still haven't had a period. I only bfed him for 2 months, I use protection (condoms and bc), so I don't know why AF hasn't returned. Just to be careful I took 3 pregnancy tests all were negative, could there be an underlying problem?

I made an appt. to see my Ob/Gyn next week but now I am really worried and just wanted to see if anyone else had a similar situation.

Oh and by the way hun, I am not trying to get pregnant again! Quite the contrary thus the reason I stated that I am using protection. I am just worried as to why I have not had a period since having my children.

I had the same problem after I had my 1st born. I was diagnosed when I found out I was pregnant with "pregnancy induced hypothyroidism." It means that my thyroid was under active after having my 1st baby. Maybe ask your doctor to check your TSH levels. After being on a thyroid medicine for a couple of years my levels were back to normal. I went on birth control after I went off the thyroid medicine to keep my menstrual cycle regular.

Good Luck!

Are you breastfeeding? Breastfeeding will very often keep your periods away. I usually don't have a period until 14 months post-partum. I've also gotten pregnant without getting a period. My youngest 4 kids are all spaced through "lactational amenorrhea"- in other words no period because of breastfeeding. I've only had maybe 10 periods in 8 1/2 years. The book Breastfeeding and Natural Child Spacing by Sheila Kippley is helpful.

I had 3 babies in under 3 years (no multiples) I had 1 period between each pregnancy. My youngest was almost a year before my cycles started regulating themselves. I was told that it was hormonal fluctuations. I wouldn't worry till you talk to your ob.

PS: some bc cause you to skip/miss periods all together and that could also be part of what is going on..this happened to me with 2 forms that I have tried

I don't have an answer, just wanted to tell you that I'm going through the same thing-- I hopped online to find out why I haven't had a period yet! My daughter is almost 7 mos. old-- and I'm breastfeeding but not exclusively-- and was just wondering why mine hasn't returned! I'm making an appt. with my OB today to see what's up. Good luck! Tell me if you get any answers!

Amenorrhea (absence of menstruation) can be caused by all different types of issues. The only way to determine the cause of your problem is to see your gynecologist or general practitioner, so you definitely need to keep that appointment! It could be a sign of a hormonal imbalance, or it could be because your body fat percentage is too low (many people with eating disorders experience amenorrhea). Of course, there are other reasons for it, too, and as I have said, the only way to pinpoint your cause is to see a doctor. You definitely need to find out what is going on, though.

not to be mean, but instead of worrying about getting pregnant again try raising your children. you should have enough to deal with now.
