It is legal. You are responsible when entrusted with some one else's belongings, they do not belong to you, if you break them you buy them. Must be a small company you're working for, but they can and have been known to do it for all types of losses incurred by an employee.

Probably illegal. Things get damaged at work. I broke a part on a machine and it cost £300 for a replacement. Someone else then broke the same thing, another £300. We were not charged anything. Must be a skinflint your gaffer.

I agree with Taffy. Check your contract, your company policy and your co-workers' opinions. It all depends on the job. I've had jobs where you had to pay for damaged product, and others where it was written off and accounted for without having to pay.

Depends on the circumstances i guess,if it's expensive stuff they're probably insured for damages.

i don't know the legality of this but the employer must be a right nasty individual //unless there are other implications you haven't mentioned

yes as per the labor law he or she has to repay from salary. it is mentioned in the labor certificate which is displayed in every factory
