The history of WHAT book? And don't you mean the history IN the book (whatever it is)?

Moreover, the last I looked, history pretty well WAS narrative, at least in part. So I'm betting that your professor is using either "history," "narrative," or both in rather specialized senses; that you're supposed to know what those are; and that if you do, you can answer the question.

If I were as clueless as you're making yourself sound, I'd try to get help from whatever student in your course seems to understand what's going on when y'all are in class.
