i have a 55 gal tank with 2 blood parrot cichlids, both about 7 inches, and a green terror thats about 3 inches. just within the past 24 hours, the bigger parrot has become very pale and is floating almsot lifelessy at the bottom of the tank. when one of the other fish comes close he will chase him away but thats all the movement he is making. also, it looks like he has a white stringy substance on his side and rear fins. they almost resemble spider webs. the other fish show no signs of anythign wrong. anybody have a clue what this might be?

Is this something with a "fuzzy" appearance to it? I'd suspect Columnaris (a bacterial infection) or a fungal infection. Columnaris generally has a circular boundary, and if it progresses long enough, the center will become red. The fungal infection has a more irregular shape. See this link for photos of these conditions: http://www.fishpalace.org/Disease.html#External

Columnaris can be treated with Maracyn or Maracyn TC, a fungal infection can be treated with Maroxy. Do a partial water change before you add the medication.

It is a sort of infection, or some fungi or a bacterial infection. Go to a fish shop or to a vet and explain exactly what you see to ask for medicine. And more important: keep the sick fish away from the rest of the fish, you can move it to a separate tank. You can also do some search on the google to find out more about fish diseases.
