trying to hit the national parks, do some hiking and adventuring anyone know of some surreal places to visit around the mountain region?

There are so many that you will have many choices.
In NM - Visit Santa Fe and head north to Taos (take the back way in to CO. In CO travel the southern part of the state you can check out Pagosa Springs, Durango, Mesa Verdie, Canyon of the Achients. In UT see Canyonlands, Capitol Reef, Bryce and Zion (if you stay south) or go up to Arches and Moab (good river running, climbing and mountain biking). Can also hit these as you come back from the southern route. You can then come back into CO and hit Aspen, Leadville and other high mountain towns (many opportunities to climbe 14,000 ft peaks (Elbert is an relatively easy climb and the Highest Peak in CO - Third in the contential US). You can then go into Denver (a very happening town, and go up to Estees park (can also go through Estes on your way down to Denver. If you really want to go into WY you can go in from the mountains mid state. Yellowstone is a long drive, but worth it (depending how much time you have). Depending how much time you have will dictate how much you can see. I did the southern CO through Sothern UT and back via SLC back to Denver on a Motorcycle in about 4 days of driving, but I did not stop much to play. DA

Rocky Mountain National Park. Do some sunset drives up Trail Ridge spectacular from the top. More hiking trails and beautiful scenery all around. Stay in Estes Park Colorado. You will be hooked.
