In what ways is Canada different from the US in terms of quality of life?

Thinking of moving to Canada, have heard great things about the government compared to the US and the people and overall environment. Anyone out there who has been or lived in both countries?

universal health care...guns are illegal...gay marriage is normal...people are more polite....more laid back...comparitively little racial problems here...

Canada has single payer healthcare. In the US--a hodgepodge healthcare system where U [hopefully] get it through your job.
