I am a Conservitive 95% [saying that 1st "incase" some of you dont know this already]
I got into a arguement with one of those "religios rights" [they piss me off almost as bad as the far left] She stated that God will help the United Stated in this war and that the bible this ,the bible that, God this, God that, all we have to do is pray and God will show Bush the way. *puked by this time*
I am all for religion, and having the right to be whatever it is that you want. but COME ON!
i told her I dont think God has anything to do with War and Government and the outcome. [and that was it]
She accused me of not being a real Conservitive.
WTF? Kinda made me mad. I wanted to tell her to ask god to save her from me punching her in the face.

Ah yes--our 'distant cousins' waaaaay over there on the right. They're just as bad as true democrats distant cousins waaaay over there on the left. Each extreme gives the other a bad name as the opposing parties only seem to focus on the extremes. I know a lot of sensible strong conservatives who aren't very religous at all--just conservative. I know some democrats who aren't the rabid liberals we seem to focus on. While I am all in favor of prayer..........she sounds like a fanatic.

What has become fundamentally wrong with this country is that we have to label everything, fill those labels with descriptions, and then praise or condemn those who chose to use the label. First, conservative has nothing to do with religion. Nothing at all. You will find more religious people are conservative because of issues that cross moral lines. But, that is an individuals line. The separation of church and state is one of the most important rights we have. There can be no other way of looking at society. People point to things like "In God We Trust" as proof that the country has a religious predetermination. What those words meant at the time is that we wouldn't trust the King anymore, no dictator, and no one who considers themselves above the rest of us. Religion has no place in government and vise versa. If the religious right want government mandated power, then they will need to start paying taxes on income and property. Until then, the two should never be used to judge the other. A democrat can't be religious? Is their God different?

that's funny, i wish there were more people like you. Yes, it is definitely possible to be a Republican and not religious. First, there are libertarians. Fiscal conservatives and social liberals, but it seems most lean Right. Then look up Ayn Rand, she was an atheist and an advocate of free-markets and generally supporting social freedom, but with reason attached. She even created a philosophy for her views. She is interesting if nothing else. maybe you knew this already though.
The bottom line is that i think there is a genuine difference now between social conservatives (religious nuts) who stupidly (or unknowingly) support big business by voting Republican and "regular" Republicans (the minority) who support free markets and also on the side believe people should be responsible for their own lives.
on the other hand, did you punch this girl in the face? if not, maybe God did protect her...

Not all conservatives are religious (in terms of Christianity), so I think the answer to your question is, Yes! Anyone can be anything they want in this country, right? Well, yes, and I know plenty of Republicans that aren't religious, and just have a neutral stand point on religion. However, having said that, a large percent of Conservatives are religious, and would typically say things like this. I personally believe God does not have any direct influence on war, seeing as how one of the ten commandments is, "thou shalt not kill." So, this woman is technically incorrect that regard, at least in my opinion. Second point is, religions are not good to combine in politics, they create arguments that can be completely avoided, even if it is just a little scuffle like the one between you and this woman. This is why America has separation of church and state. So, she really shouldn't be bringing God up in war, however, I do think it is sensible to bring up religions in guidance on decisions. However, God would not grant the death of one culture over the other, because God does not grant preferential treatment to people. So, this woman is just one of those Jesus Camp Christians who thinks God plays a decisive role in EVERYTHING politics and this is a bad way to think of politics. Politics, I will say again, should not be combined with Religion. Politics is just too hot of a topic already that causes debates, so why would you combine Religion, when it is equally controversial; it's just going to create double the arguments than it would have if either would've been without the other. I am a Conservative, however, I don't believe in mixing God into politics, it's too dangerous and too controversial. So tell that woman to shove it up her ***. You can be Conservative too, like me, without mixing God into War and Killing, and non-sense violence in a country that we don't need to be in. People like her, bigots like her, deserve to be locked up into a giant camp away from the public.

Good for you : ) Also not a republican. It is sick how the media is now conservative. I do however agree with some of it, as long as Americans are not influenced by National Mythology.

As long as you are not a liberal heathen you are ok by me. We should stick together in the fight against liberals and after the last liberal is gone maybe we can fight it out.

"Do you think someone can still be a republican without being religious?"
Republicans are usually considered economic conservatives, and look for minimum government intrusion on personal rights.
Democrats are usually considered looking for economic problems that government needs to prevent/correct thru legislation.
Some religious beliefs may drive these economic outlooks, but I just don't see a tight correlation between being religious and either party.
However, certain factions, (Pro gays, anti abortionists, religious zealots) will try to hijack either party to promote their agenda. That is where we are now.
