The "best" way would be in your own vehicle.

That said, we use the city bus(CAT/Deuce) and free hotel shuttles for 99% of our transportation and we get around just fine.

Even if you have or rent a vehicle it's still a long walk from the parking lots/garages of most LV hotels. The best reason you could have for renting a car would be if you wanted to take day trips to Red Rock Canyon, Grand Canyon, Mt. Charleston, etc.

CAT/Deuce info

CAT - 24 hour pass $2.50
Deuce - 24 hour pass $5

Strip Trolley info

Free hote shuttles
http://www.lasvegasadvisor.com/transportation.cfm >Free hotel shuttles >the hotel or hotel group >LV Map "click here" .This will give you the location and pickup times.

Each of those transportation options has it's advantages at times.

We go to LV 2-3 times a year for 2 or more weeks at a time and have for over 20 years.

If you have a question on how to get from one specific point to another, feel free to e-mail me through YA and I will explain the best way to get there.

As suggested, rent a car if you're going to be on the go. The rental rate of about $30 per day (plus insurance if you don;t have any) is worth about 4 taxi rides for two people (and parking is free).

The bus is cheaper but not nearly as convenient as driving especially when the weather gets hotter and you have to wait outside or if you want to go to an off Strip location.

Try the monorail (get a one-day pass) but, unlike the optimistic projections from the politicians, very few people take the monorail on a regular basis.

Finally, for most people it is a thrill to rent a limo for a trip or two; costs about $50 per hour and up.

For your freedom to do what you want rent a car.
if you are serious let me give you a trick that worked for me every time.

I used to come here a few times a year, and needed the rental car to get around. I stood in the lot one day and watched all the people return the cars and board the bus to get to the airport terminal.

Every car is large. So when you rent the car on line as for the smallest economy car. The cheap one. They do not have any at the airport. Too many families and to many people playing golf. Everyone needs a midsize or larger. They do not stock sub compacts.

you will get an immediate upgrade for the compact price.

It does work.

Have fun .

Walk , or Walk , or Cab ; Walk to nearby properties but no more than 3 apart , distances are longer than they appear ; or Walk to the back of the casinos on the East side of the strip to the Monorail stations ; or take a Cab waiting at the entrance to every casino , relatively inexpensive due the mostly short distances . If you commute to work everyday let someone else drive & park & pay for gas & you'll Walk from every casino garage as much distance as you will to the Monorail or the casino across the street .

it all depends on what you want to do while your here...if staying on the strip no just take taxis, buses which go only up and down the strip or just walk (if walking bring comfortable shoes because even though things on the strip seam close together you have to remember that one hotel takes a whole block to itself!)...if you plan on going to Lake Mead or the dam then I would rent a car. I hope you have a good time out here.

If you're staying on the Strip, you do not need a car - you can walk & take the monorails - a car is expensive, the Strip is almost total gridlock. You only need a car to go out & about town

No need for a car if you are planning on being on the strip.
There are buses, the monorail, and taxis.A car would only hold you back. its not that far to walk the strip either.
