Of course, people should talk to their dogs, they r not given enough credit for understanding what is said to them, Animals r not stupid, all have brains and can comprehend what is being said to them by word association. When they repeatedly hear a word or phrase, they associate the sound to what u want them to do. You bond with ur pet by talking to them. Imagine having an animal and never speaking a word to them. Sad situation.

Of course they can! The animals won't have a clue what it means since they don't know anything about the human language, but why let that stop you?

I know dogs can understand many words after learning what they mean. I can just say the word "ball" without making any motion with my hands or anything, and the dog knows what I'm talking about, and fetches the ball. I can also say their names and they turn around and look at me. I'm sure they'd know heaps more if I spent more time with them.

Sure you can talk to dogs and other animals--it's when THEY start talking back that you might figure you have a problem

Sure they can!!
I believe they can understand us...but animals have a very strong sense of understanding body language & tone of voice. Animals can instictivly tell your mood.

Yes, if you can talk! Even if you use sign language! As long as they grow up with you communicating to them, they will understand.

Yes. You can talk to your teenagers as well and get less response.
Seriously tone of voice and the same words (you decide, is it here, or come, or come here or whatever) generally is the key.

Of course. They can talk to trees too. Doesn't mean the tree or dog understands.

Sure. We talk to them all the time. But whether or not they UNDERSTAND is a matter of controversy.
I believe they understand a LOT.
