Sure he is not that flashy.
But he's the most fundamentally sound player in the league.
Why don't most people give him any props?

I totally agree. So to help you out I'll copy and paste my comment from another question. Maybe give some of these guys a different perspective. Heres some stats from Duncan's career. Sorry its so long:

You say Duncan is Overrated, you say he's INCONSISTENT.

Spurs record since Duncan joined:
559-239 Regular season
82-49 in Playoffs
3 Championships

Since the NBA merger, only four players have been that CONSISTENTLY successful. Bird, Magic, MJ, and Shaq.

Averages from his first year in the League:
21.1 ppg, 11.9 rpg, 2.7 apg, 2.5 bpg, 55% shooting, 39.1 mpg

Averages from this season:
20.0 ppg, 10.6 rpg, 3.4 apg, 2.4 bpg, 55% shooting, 34.1 mpg

These are the best guys he's played with:
David Robinson- Turned 33 Duncans rookie year
Manu Ginobili- Never a top 15 player
Tony Parker- Never a Top 15 player

He will end his first decade in the NBA with 4 rings, 2 regular season MVP awards, and 9, yes 9 first-team All-NBA selections.

As to anyone else that would like to trash Tim Duncans good name:
You have NO ground to stand on. You can say he's boring, he whines too much. I'll give you that. But don't EVER question his ability. For your own sake.

Sorry guys, I meant 3 rings. i put 4. My mistake

Because he's "boring", won 3 championships(4th coming this summer), 2 MVP's, single-handily transformed a regular playoff team into a championship contender.........need I go no? The bottom line is that it's easy to hate the best: Kobe Bryant is loathed by nearly all non-Laker fans for being superb, LeBron James has a website dedicated to hating him, and even good guys like Nash and Duncan get hate from sore losers. It's pretty sad considering there was once a time when people were smart enough to appreciate talent, even if that talent was on a different team.

I'm not a suns fan, I'm definitely not a spurs fan, but this is my take on Tim Duncan.

I don't hate him because he's good (I can respect him for that and because he doesn't get in fights and plays well), but there's 1 reason I don't like him and 1 reason why I can't stand him:

1. He plays with some other questionable players, Bowen, Ginobili, and, now, Horry. Makes me dislike the whole team, and that includes him.

2. It's not that he gets all, "WTF!?" everytime that he gets a foul, the thing is, it's that he usually gets all the calls anyway (you can't really say there's anyone in the league, with a big exclusion for Wade that gets more calls, even Kobe gets less). And it's because he's not call for a lot of fouls or anything, that I really hate when he gets that incredulous look on his face. A general rule I have is that the top players who get all the calls - I don't like them. I don't like guys who live by getting all the fouls called for them, and taking tons of free throws (i.e. Wade in last years finals). He's one of them, and then he has the nerve to act so surprised when he's finally called for a foul or the ball goes out touching him last. ... Grr.

Like my boy said everybody hates the best. When you're on top and noone can come up with a way to stop you all there's left to do is hate. This man has done everything you need from your big man. He scores, shoots a high percentage, rebounds, blocks shots, and most importantly win. Honestly I didn't like him cause I'm a big Lakers fan, but these last couple of years I learned to appreciate him as a player.

Well a lot of people like flashy players. That's one of the reasons I don't like him. He's definitely very very good, I'll give him that.

But also, I think his demeanor is also of a boring, drab nature. He doesn't show much emotion while playing, he isn't very charismatic on TV, and something about him just rubs me the wrong way. I simply don't like him.

But, I do give him props. A lot of people do. He's probably one of the top 5 players of his generation. He just doesn't make the highlight reel, and so media attention is not the same as that of someone like Lebron James.

I would have to disagree. I don't think people hate Tim Duncan. He's one of the most unassuming superstars in the league and he's a class act on and off the court. Rather I think people hate the Spurs. Why? Two words: Bowen, Horry.

because the people that dont get Tim like to watch high flying, high scoring, ESPN top ten highlight every night players that cant lead a team to a title...funny how that works isnt it? I'm not a huge Duncan fan, but I respect him... I bet every one of those highlight reel players quietly wish they had a 'big fundamental' on their team to give them a sniff at hoisting that trophy...
