Install OS, then motherboard chipset drivers, graphics card driver, soundcard driver, wi-fi card driver, etc. Then comes the softwares.
If you will do a lot of web surfing, make sure you have an anti-virus, anti-spyware and a registry guard like WinPatrol. This hardens your PC from intruders.

Yes you can insert the Windows XP disc and boot up the computer. XP can handle all the setup for the drive that used to have to be done before installing the OS.

Yes, That simple.
But you may run into problems if....
Your Bios isn't set to boot from the CD Rom.
If your hard drive requires SCSI controllers.
If your using a Operating System that doesn't come with formating tools.
Other then that you should be OK. Just partition the drive and format. After which you will need to go do a internet search for your drivers.

Also xp doesn't recognize above 137gigs unless you have service pack 2.

install your os("operating system") xp boot it in your cd room. detect your motherbord, use the cd included into your pacage.install the additional driver if you have like the video card.
