Hi,

I have some questions about solar power, it's for a school project. Thanks for all your help in advance.

What is solar power?

How does it work? (Please be as specific as possible and list details)

What is solar power used for? (A list would be great.)

How efficient is solar power?

How cost efficient it is?

What are the advantages and disadvantages?

And anything you find important to share would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Solar power refers to the utilisation of the sunlight for meeting our energy needs, which are otherwise met by electricity or coal, oil, gas etc.

There are several ways for utilising solar power:

- photovoltaic cells for producing electricity (very expensive to set up but maintenance free)

- solar water heaters very popular in several countries to produce hot water

- solar cookers for cooking food

Solar power is environmentally very clean - no carbon dioxide, no radiation, no health hazards etc.

but it is very expensive right now.

Solar power can be converted into heat energy and electric energy,it can be used in many field such as hot water and electicity for home industry and business,it also can be used to cook food.Everything is going well with solar power instead of using electicity. Thus using solar power can reduce the emission of fuels and carbon so that protect our earth.

Solar power is realized in two forms:
- Photovoltaic power. Sheets of photocells produce electricity, which can be used for the usual purposes. Such systems cost $10 per installed watt of capacity, and can produce a maximum of 2 kWh per year per installed watt -- which is worth about 25 cents. Unless you can get a really fat subsidy, you are better off leaving your money in a savings account.

-Thermal power. Water in tubing in a black box, or air in blackened ducts, is heated by sunlight for domestic water or space heating purposes. Such is suitable for space heating only in warm climates, in which air conditioning is necessary, so one may as well get a heat pump and save the cost of the solar traps. Solar hot water heating is used occasionally in areas where energy is expensive, such as Israel.

You may be surprised to learn that almost all power on earth is a form of solar power. Fossil fuels are the remains of trees and marine life that were nutured by the sun millions of years ago. Electricity that is generated by hydro power comes from turbines that are turned by falling water that once was evaporated by the sun and rose to be cooled and condenced into rain whic fell back to earth on mountains and ran as rivers.

solar power is power you get directly from the sun to make it like a source of elctricity, it saves a lot of energy.
hope that makes u understand it =)
