I poured water down the inlet pipe but I think the check valve is leaking how do I repair this?

If the check valve is leaking, your going to have to replace this first. Very important. A pump can push water to a very long distance but, cannot pull water vary far, especially without a check valve. This helps maintain the pressure.

Once primed, if it still doesn't hold the pressure, you have to go to plan "B" you could have a dry seal, a leak, some other problem. Check all your fittings. I have a hint that this is a cabin and it's been sitting for a "year" check everything. You may have to take all the fittings apart and reseal them with pipe dope. Check the pump fittings first.
A shallow well pump can be a bear to get working. Usually it's the fittings. Good luck.

The check valve ( foot valve) is in the cast iron manifold, at the bottom of the well.. You would have to pull both lines up, all the way out of the well, to get at it, undo the two clamps, replace the foot valve,, remembering to tie off the "just in case"rope, and put it all back in.
