I doubt they are wire tapping, what would be the point on the internet? But, they are constantly monitoring chat rooms, forums, and websites for suspicious activity. (AH, I saw that dirty thought you had. Oh my, you have a sick mind) not really!

Essentially a personal computer stuffed with specialized software, Carnivore represents a new twist in the federal government's fight to sustain its snooping powers in the Internet age. But in employing the system, which can scan millions of e-mails a second, the FBI has upset privacy advocates and some in the computer industry. Experts say the system opens a thicket of unresolved legal issues and privacy concerns.
The FBI developed the Internet wiretapping system at a special agency lab at Quantico, Va., and dubbed it Carnivore for its ability to get to "the meat" of what would otherwise be an enormous quantity of data. FBI technicians unveiled the system to a roomful of astonished industry specialists here two weeks ago in order to steer efforts to develop standardized ways of complying with federal wiretaps. Federal investigators say they have used Carnivore in fewer than 100 criminal cases since its launch early last year.

There are many spoofs on this idea. I have been told the same thing about 6 times. I am sure that there is an over site agency that constantly monitors the Internet for dangerous situations and threats against heads of state and various terrorist patterns, but I am not sure if I would classify that as Wiretapping. After all.... anyone can surf the Internet.

Okay, you got a few replies. Satisfied? I don't own a picture phone. If I did, I don't keep it in the bedroom or bathroom so I wouldn't care. Only thing I would have to hide is a pic of my old @ss.

I would not put anything past the FBI, that is the kind of work that they are trained to do. I believe my telephone and cable t.v. are taped.

The NSA can read any email, listen to any phone, and eavesdrop on just about everyone in the world, might as well just get used to it.
