It all depends on how close to the strip you want to be...
the Stratosphere Hotel has low rates while still being on the strip (although it's the far end of the strip close to downtown) they have rooms for around 50$ a night. Plus the rooms there have a great view at night...just be sure to ask for the side facing the strip and not downtown which is not as pleasant to look at. If your looking for lower then you'll have to stay off the strip.

You could also check out this link that list all the hotels in Vegas along with Star rating, reviews, maps and photos...

hope this helps and you have a great time while your out here ;)

Imperial Palace is okay - if you just want a cheap place to stay, then it's fine. But don't plan on enjoying any amenities there - gamble elsewhere, eat elsewhere, and be prepared to be annoyed. But yeah, the price and location are great. Tropicana doesn't have as good a location, but it's in a fairly busy area and was recently renovated. It usually offers low rates. Excalibur is old, but clean and in decent shape. It tends to have more kids/families than other places, but also has good rates. It's right across the street from Tropicana. Again, not an ideal central location, but it's not bad. I'd avoid Circus Circus - it's worse than IP. Stratosphere is a great hotel with great rates, but in an awful location. You don't want to be walking around there at night, and it's not really within practical walking distance of anything else.

Go to: www.lvol (las vegas on Line) and read the reviews for the hotels on the strip, off strip and in the downtown area. The most expensive hotel on the strip is the Wynn, downtown its the Golden Nugget. Cheaper hotel rooms are definitely downtown, plus you get the ambience of Freemont Street where you can easily walk from one to another. Stay away from the Western (downtown) and if alone, I wouldn't advise walking to the El Cortez.....Good Luck

On the strip check out the Web Site for MGM Grand , I've found surprisingly good rates for all types of rooms . Downtown friends have told me the Golden Nugget has good rates in a very nice casino / hotel .

Did you want the best or the cheapest?

You can check Monte Carlo or Excalibur for a decent rate on the strip. Something like Arizona Charlies is going to be the cheapest; but not the best... it is not on the strip.

The best would be .. Belagio, Venetian, MGM Grand, etc.

In general hotels are cheaper downtown than on the strip. Try to do a package deal (air + hotel)for the best prices on expedia.com or travelocity.com. If you're looking for fun or excitement, then you'll want to be on or near the strip.
