Wild turtles make poor pets. If you caught it, you really should release it...
- it may be illegal to own (Many states have several laws about this- many even count snappers as if they were a fish you need a permit for.)
- wild-caught turtles do not do real well with the stress of captivity. It is called Maladaption Syndrome.
- it will probably take more time and money than you are really ready to spend. A good turtle habitat for a young one takes about $150, a good habitat for a middle size snapper can easily cost $500.
Diet should be good quality turtle pellets, and a mix of different kinds of live or frozen 'fish foods'- worms, insects, arthropods, shrimp, snails, krill, beef heart, cooked chicken, etc.
A daily serving is about the size of the turtle's head.

Hello, your fingers & toes if you're not careful, you shouldn't keep anything wild, especially aquatics & snapping turtles, #1 you don't know what your doing or you wouldn't be here & you will be slowly causing him death by not knowing, it takes more then food #2 Most Important, they carry serious diseases they are immune too but you, your family or other pets are not like salmonella, e coli, etc ... so seriously think about putting this turtle back where you found him which is near water of some sort...sorry I don't help those who take from the wild, cuz it's not right to do & dangerous !! Take Care :)P.S NO Iceberg lettuce or celery, it's no good for anything ...especially reptiles !!

you will desire to no longer shop that turtle because of the fact that could be a snapping turtle and those can easily take a finger off. Snapping turtles eat fish. you will desire to easily get some feeder fish and in case you desire to objective feeding meal worms would be stable too. only make particular there is countless water and a few impressive aquatic vegetation with some pebbles on the backside of the tank. launch the turtle as quickly as you may so he doesnt get used to captivity

I once had a snapping turtle as a pet ... I got it when it was about the size of a dime and kept it until it was the size of my fist...he had a tank that was half a hill of sand for him to be on land and half water for him to swim in, and we put live plants in his water.... I remember when he was smaller we gave him this turtle pellets you get from pet smart but when he got older and bigger we started getting him feeder fish with the pellets(one fish at a time) to put in the pond side of his tank he would "play" with the fish for a couple days or a week and then one day he'd get hungry and eat it...hope this helps!
I also remember him liking lettuce as a treat...

HIIIIIIIII....i made friends with 3 HUGE snapping turtles (the size of turkey platters) that live in a creek near me. i always felt lucky i was on a steep bank and they couldn't get to me because i knew they would be just as happy to eat my fingers. at first they would eat ANYTHING, cigarette butts, stryofoam or pebbles. i figured out real fast they saw me as a food souce so i started to feed them honey buns (which they loved) i knew sugar wasn't good so i threw them hamburger patties and the bun. whenever i went to the bank they would swim over and poke thier heads out of the water. i started to buy them lettuce and sardines that they would fight over.
i had to leave that area and i don't see my turtles anymore ( tina , trixie and timmy) but here are my conclusions. they eat everything and will eat your fingers too but they like small fish and enjoy the sweetness of veggies.

well because you're feeding it i'm betting that it isn't so wild anymore. or you have one hanging around your pond either way you should not feed it. it is wild and can take care of itself if you caught it and especially if it is a snapper you should replace it back into the wild imediately for too obvious of reasons to list...
