If you want to put it in the aquarium, and the pieces are small enough, boil it first. Plecos especially love to suck on driftwood. Make sure to boil it though to start leeching the tannins out and to kill any bacteria or insects (eggs) that might be in the wood itself.
If the pieces are too big to boil, you can soak them in water and just keep emptying the water every few days until the water runs clear. Just make sure the last time you soak it, you do it with dechlorinated water before adding it to the tank. This also gives you the opportunity to make sure it IS driftwood and will sink instead of float around your aquarium :)

If it's dry, you can burn it. Makes a wonderful fire - especially if it's been in salt water. It has different colors than ordinary wood. If the pieces are beautiful, you can use them for carving, or for woodwork, if you're into that. Or you can just leave them on the beach, adding to the scenery and providing fuel for warm summer night bonfires. .

If you don't want it just throw it out, if its for animals give it to a shelter cause sometimes they get animals that need that kind of stuff.

Do you want to put it in your tank? If you do, then wash it with no soap and put it in. You could also offer it to pet stores, just like magicman said.
