Could a politician shot from the hip and tell the truth and be accepted by the American people as President? Do we as a country want our politicians to paint rosy pictures and lie to us to make us feel better? Could we handle the truth?

Unfortunately not.
Too many people will vote for the candidate that basically tells them what they want to hear, whether it be a misrepresentation of the facts or an out right lie.
There are some very simple ways to fix some of the problems in this country but those solutions are not acceptable to many people therefore are not pursued because any politician that did would not get reelected. Too many in this country worry about how something affects them immediately and could care less if it will be detrimental to us all in the long run.

From my point of view, the United States of America will NEVER make us a state. First of all, this would require a new star in their flag and they had to change all flags. Also, 50 stars is a perfect in number. I mean, half a of a hundred right? If the added one it wouldn't look as well. And this statehood would cost more to the USA and to Puerto Rico. Next November, puerto ricans would be voting if the ywant statehood, independence or just stay just as they are(commonwealth). Independence will obviously lose. I mean, this island can't afford providing neither money or food to the 4 million people who live here. Statehood and commonwealth, I think, would be even. I mean, one of those two will win but I'm not sure which will. In my opinion, I would love it to be a state. Puerto Rico would stop being just a colony of the United States and would become an equal to the rest of the states. That would be awesome.

We finally have a chance! Ron Paul for President.
I believe Washington, Adams, Jefferson, Madison and Monroe were honest decent politicians and good presidents. Ron Paul is in that mold.

There really are good politicians out there. I have to admit that we actually need them for what they do. I don't want to run for office, so I have respect for those who do. I also get to vote! It's not an all or nothing world. Sometimes one has to look for the good!!

Americans "can't handle the truth..."
That's why politicians avoid talking about global warming, corporate welfare, corrupt political systems, big business ruining the nation's economy, and our individual freedoms such as the right to bear arms and the right to free speech.
They don't want to upset anybody....and WE don't want to hear the 'truth' about all those issues. -RKO- 05/18/07

I think its possible and we have a chance at that. A constitutional populist. Ron Paul 08!

I was just reading this article, finally someone in the mainstream media speaks to the facts. I have a feeling many of us agree...

No, I don't think that's possible. The establishment that controls politics in the US would consider that too much of a risk and most of the people that vote are too ignorant to tell the difference between a person of character and someone who blows smoke up their butt. In fact they prefer smoke, it perpetuates their belief in the sanctity of their ignorance.
