I am going to London next week. I have always been interested in the Jack the Ripper case and was wondering if anyone has any suggestions for the best way to see the Whitechapel area where he was? Is it better to do a tour group or just try to find the places by myself? I don't know how safe the area is. Any suggestions will help : )

It should be fine... i've never been scared in the centre of london... but i've never been on it, even though ive wanted to many times... but they have done a jack the ripper tour(i dont know if it is still on) but should be advertised and it sounded really cool... so you might aswel go to whitechaple and have a good look around and see if theres a tour ... because theres bound to be its a famous place.... also i know its pathetic but in the london dungeons they done a jack the ripper story.... and explained some things... but that was a little while ago and as before i don't know if it is still on...there will be plenty of info if you ask around at tourist offices.

I agree, the London dungeon is good if you're into Jack the Ripper, and definitly worth going to see regardless.

There's a walking tour you can take, my friend went on it last year, she enjoyed it. Apparently there's a couple of different tours, some are rubbish, but I'm not sure which one she went on.

I know an excellent tour guide how does small group tours. Email me if you want his name: whitechapel@xmail.net

Some of the areas are not places to wander around on your own, especially at night, so a reputable guide is the way to go.

I have a group that are returning in a few days.
I set them up with a Jack The Ripper Tour.
It is a walking tour of the area.
I am sure the travel agent you booked with can tell you about it.

A tour group would be best, they know all the locations of specific events, they have details about the incidents, the people involved with the investigation, the victims, the suspects, and can answer your questions. It is very fascinating!

I went on this walk last year. The guy knows what he's talking about. I'd recommend it.
