"turkey baster" pregnancy?

I've heard about people becoming pregnant by using the "turkey baster method" now I'm asking in ignorance here because I simply don't know and have just recently heard of this...does this mean, the male pulls out before he ejaculates and you put the semen into the baster and insert into the vagina?? Excuse my ignorance..just curious if anyone else has heard of this

and why wouldnt the male ejaculating inside her work the same...?

and I've heard of this as slang for IVF...is that all it is?

It's generally used in women who don't want to have sex with men or men who don't want to have sex with women (who find a surrogate).
In response to the other answers, this is not invetro fertilization. IVF is where the egg is removed, fertilized and then placed back in the woman. Rather, this is non-coital insemination. (artificial insemination).
The "turkey baster" method is practiced at home, the sperm is placed into a large dropper (yes, this is masturbated sperm) and placed near the cervix and released. The woman lies still for 30-45 minutes and keeps her legs elevated. This helps the little guys find their way easier.
Reasonings other than same sex couples using this technique may be that a woman has a hard time conceiving and placing the sperm nearest the cervix works better sometimes and also for women who are single, not looking for a relationship and just want a child.

it can work but you have to be patient, and probably instead of using an ACTUAL turkey baster consider a flexible syrenge with tubing at the end b/c turkey basters hold much more liquid than there will be of ejaculate. Additionally keep track of your periods- i even suggest get an ovulation prediction kid- like from clear blue easy or something, or just ovulation stripts- the kit is expensive but digital and the strips are cheap but not as easy to use. The reason i suggest this is because i do not think the guy wants to come over every other day to your house to ejaculate into a condom so you can try and use it- this way you guys will try when it can definatley work.

I saw this once on TV, a woman and her husband wanted a baby but the woman was unable to conceive, so her sister stepped up and conceived and had a baby for them (her egg, body and his sperm in a turkey baster) true story I watched it with my own eyes, the guy basically masterbated inside the turkey baster and then the woman and her sister inserted into her hooohooo and it took.

EDIT: well, I didn't watch the process, but rather them explaining what they had done, it was like a 20/20 type program.

Today it is used by some women to help their chances of conceiving a girl - you have the man ejaculate into a cup, add a couple drops of lemon or lime juice (the male sperm favor a less acidic environment) and then it is injected into the woman. You pretty much have the idea. Just another way of getting the job done. IVF is still IVF or IUI - intrauterine injection. Hoe this helped! (I still prefer to do it the old fashioned way and leave it up to chance. I also imagine some women might use this to get pregnant without their partner knowing.)

I think it means that if you want to get pregnant but dont want to have sex, or were single, then you can get a guy to ejaculate into a cup or something and then put the semen into the turkey baster and insert it into the vagina. This way you would have a chance at getting pregnant but wouldn't have to have sex to do it.

People have done this for do-it-yourself sperm donation.....For example, if a woman wants to get pregnant by a certain man but doesn't want to sleep with him, he masturbates, put his ejaculate into a turkey baster, and within minutes gives this to the woman who injects it up against her cervix.

Funny you should ask....I believe the first people who did this (and got publicity for it) were Knox College graduates, which is the college in my town (Galesburg, IL)!

I watched a story on TLC about a gay couple whose surrogate conceived 2x using that method. They did it to spare the expense of having a doctor do basically the same thing.

Well, I guess its when the woman doesn't WANT to have sex with a man to get a baby. Hence they get sperm that a man has ejaculated (most likely from masturbation) and inserts that sperm inside.
