I'm going through some hockey withdrawal tonight, for sure. SO, a little exercise:
I think everyone has this guy on their favorite team who they just want to get rid off. No, sending him to the minor leagues isn't good enough; you want this guy as far away from your city as possible. Well...until he visits later with a new team whose fans will probably want to trade him too.
Team: Pittsburgh Penguins
I'd Trade: Josef Melichar
Reason: ...Come on, we call him "Smellichar"! The best plays he made all season were passes in the defensive zone to Sergei Gonchar, who should have been nominated for the Norris just for playing with Melichar. I don't even want to know how many giveaways he had. It's not like he finishes his man with any great hits either.
I thought it was funny that the kid who won Melichar's jersey on fan appreciation night looked miserable---until I opened the envelope containing the signed puck I had won...and it was signed by none other than Melichar! AHHH!

NOTE: Okay, I respect Josef Melichar as a hockey player, obvious lover of the game, and even for his...skills. That doesn't mean that if I were GM I wouldn't trade him for a better guy---I want my team to have the best chance to win possible!

Team: Buffalo Sabres
I'd Trade: Teppo Numminen
Reason: It's mostly out of spite for the GM. After the lockout, a lot of top names moved around to new teams. Wow, Philly got Forsberg! Toronto got Lindros! Atlanta got Bobby Holik!
Who did we get? Teppo Numminen. We got the Euro-longevity king (as of November of this season.) We got the only player drafted in 1986 that is still playing. We got a guy that has a part time job selling hockey sticks. We got Teppo. GREAT. Then we resigned him for this season! EVEN BETTER.
He'll be a free agent again soon, so a trade is pretty much out of the question. But will they sign him again? Can't wait to find out.

This trade was about as exciting as a hernia. His best years are behind him. @ Scott - From what I hear, the Penguins look to resign Gologoski, and it seems Letang and Talbot are the ones the Pens are trying to deal. I have been hearing alot of Jordan Staal/Jack Johnson trade rumors, but I don't see that flying away. Talbot doesn't get along with Bylsma and the Penguins are fed up with the non-production from Letang's previous breakout year.

How about Bryan McCabe for 7 million a season and he got an assist almost every game for goals scored by the other team.
And I whole-heartedly disagree with the Rick Nash comment above. He's a scoring winger and when you give him the puck in the right situations he'll do the job most times. He's wasting away in the hockey hell they call Columbus. Did you see him at the World Championships? The goal he scored to seal the win for Canada is one for the ages. He'd score 60 or more with a guy like Joe Thorton feeding him.

Team : St. Louis Blues
I'd Trade: Manny Legace
Reason: San Jose already took Bill Guerin (the only player who was a Blue last season I would've rather jettisoned than Legace) off our hands last season, and with Legace standing in the way of Curtis Sanford and/or Jason Bacashihua to develop into better starting goaltenders, combined with a need to upgrade the defense corps (the signing of Erik Johnson won't be enough in 2007-08), I'd trade Legace to a goaltender-starved team for some defensemen upgrades (hopefully Montreal would give us Sheldon Souray, but I don't see that happening).

Team- Buffalo Sabres
Dmitri Kalinin. He started off great as a rookie. He was making text book checks and take aways. Each year, he keeps getting worse and gives up more pucks each year to the other team.

I was going to say Sergei Samsonov but I don't think any team would trade for him, so instead I'll pick Saku Koivu who I've wanted to see go for a few years now. And I still do even if this was his best year points wise.
The first reason why I want to see him go is because of the ridiculous contract they gave him. The second reason is that I want new leadership for the team and somehow, I don't see them taking away his C unless they trade him.

Anson Carter. Why the hell did we trade for him? we get him, he plays in perhaps 2 games then he's a scratch for the rest of the season, more or less. And we had to give up picks for him...
