I recall the prediction, although I don't honestly recall that a decade was given for it - just that everybody was all worried about it, and that seems to have been when the popular notion of California falling off into the sea came about ;-)
Good data on earthquakes that DID happen can be found at the USGS (link below). Enjoy!

Earth quake is not predictable. But I can prove that I issued the warning 2 hours before Tsunami struck our Indian coast to our local T.V.Stations..Here is some hints why I issued the warning . I sensed the earthquake wave for an unusual time of 12 minutes with the help of my quake alarm designed by me.As per the concept of Richter scale it should be from far away place and the magnitude should be enormous.I read from the book written by Mr Bruce Bolt that we should keep away from sea shore if we sense the earthquake waves because Tsunami may struck long after the shaking is stopped. That day was full moon day. I spoke about Tsunami in Singapore radio 9 months before it attacked our Asian coast. Is in not sufficient enough to issue the warning.

I don't remember the date of the prediction, but the WS (Loma Prieta, @7.1) earthquake hit just about 5:03 pm, Pacific Time, Oct 17, 1989.

I am a San Francisco resident. I was visiting relatives on the East Coast when the big earthquake occurred on October 17, 1989. I had planned to return, but my uncle from Richmond was coming to visit my aunt in New York, so I stayed 2 extra days. When he arrived, we went out to dinner. When we returned to Auntie's home, someone turned on the TV, and we heard about the big earthquake. Auntie said I should be glad I missed it.

Gosh, I save seeing those posts approximately Skate's on the Bay - adult men, you're too high priced. recover from yourselves. what's close to Skates and romantic in spite of the undeniable fact that, is the Berkeley Pier, and the Berkeley marina. The Berkeley pier used to circulate virtually to Alcatraz, so as that the cargos coming in could desire to sell off their packing containers - interior 2 nautical miles, the bay replaced into too shallow. i admire happening the pier as a results of fact it is the place you will discover the perfect sunsets: Alcatraz and the golden Gate suited in front of you, you will discover sailboats coming in, and slowly, you will discover the city get rid of darkness from.... did you be attentive to? it is the place Otis Redding wrote the track "i'm sitting on the dock of the bay...". the perfect romantic spot is one the place you will discover a narrative take place, or tell a narrative. attempt that one! it is poetic for me. Plus, it is close to to campus (approximately 2 miles west), meaning you may head back downtown for some much less costly and intensely solid food.

No one predicted "The Big One". No credible scientists claim that ability. What they DO say is that the region is overdue for an 8.0 or higher, and that, statistically speaking, one should have occurred at that time.
The 1989 quake was close to 7.0, as I recall, but that wasn't "The Big One".

I don't remember the prediction, but there was a pretty good sized one in 1989.
