Cedar Point did not buy all of Paramount's parks, Cedar Fair did. Cedar Fair is the parent company of Cedar Point. And they bought the Paramount parks because they were for sale since CBS and Paramount finally realized that they don't know how to run decent amusement parks, and Cedar Fair saw it as a great investment opportunity. Now, between Cedar Fair and Six Flags, the two are the largest amusement park companies in the country.

Probably cause Cedar Point had the money and they wanted to have other parks with big rollercoasters cause they are out of room in theirs. I really don't know. That is my guess.
