Your doctor would advise you to rest your leg

Rest
Ice
Compression
Elevation

They should also advise you to take pain relief. They may or may not decide to arrange an X-ray of your ankle depending on what they think when they examine you.

Given that you went to the gym yesterday and I think from what you have written it sounds to me like you can walk, I could safely state that you don't have a major fracture.

Some people can have very small fractures and still walk.

The possibility of needing crutches will really depend on how you manage to get about with them or without them. If you can barely move about because your ankle is so painful then you should consider getting crutches. If you are limping about but capable of getting around your house perhaps you don't need crutches.

Crutches are easy to take on the bus. You might have some difficulty getting up the steps initially but with a little practice it should pose no problem for you.

Bless your heart. Yes you should go see about it. It is probably a sprain which is very painful but you don't want to take the chance. The doctor will x-ray it and do a physical exam and if it isn't broken they will put you in a brace. Hopefully you can handle it with the one on your hand. As to the crutches, it is easy, remember to put your good foot up first and the bad foot down first. If you are going up the stairs put the good foot up then the hurt one. When you are going down the stairs, put your hurt foot down first then your good one. The way I remember is good foot goes to Heaven the bad foot goes toward hell.
