1) Powdered metals will oxidize quickly in a normal atmosphere which will result in a fire or an explosion.

2) Cold slows the actions of the bacteria responsible for spoilage.

3) Water boils at such a low temperature at those altitudes that the water isn't hot enough to cook an egg.

Lots o fmetals that oxidize at a hight rate (such as magnesium) will burn (oxidize) very rapidly in powdered form.

The various bacteris, etc. that are responsible for food 'going bad' grow at a much slower rate when they're cold.

At high altitudes, the partial pressure of water vapor is much lower nd water bloil at a lower temperature.

1) Some metalic components are susceptable to explosion if mixed with water or other chemicals

2) the same reason as a human body will decompose faster when not kept cool. Decomposition occurs at an accelerated rate at higher temps

3) Because the air is thinner, the flame has less oxygen to work with and therefore can burn as hot as it would at lower altitudes
