You can either:

1. Multiply the sum by 0.08, then add that to the sum or,
2. Multiply the sum by 1.08.

All you need to do is get a calculator, take the 27.25 and divide that by 100 for 100% that gives you what 1% of the price is then just multiply that by 8. That gives you the total of the tax, then you just add that to the total price of the item.

Its pretty easy; you take the base price (lets use $27.25) and take the tax rate (8%) and multiply them. Since you cannot multiply percents by decimals, to do this, you need to change the percent into one. Imagine the % sign as a decimal. (8.00) Move the decimal to the LEFT two places. (8. changed to .08) The percent is now in decimal form. You can now multiply $27.25 by .08. This comes to $2.18. This is how much the tax would be in that particular item; add it to the original base price of $27.25.
(=$29.43)

Without getting complicated about it, you can do it pretty easily by multiplying $27.25 by .08 (that is the decimal equivalent of 8%). The answer is $2.18, so you'd add that to 27.25, and the total sum would be $29.43.

The way you add tax is by multiplying the total amount by 1.08

For example if you spend $100.00 and the tax percentage is 10% you multiply 100.00 x 1.10 ok

Using your example you multiply 27.25 x 1.08 = 29.43

If accuracy is not a big deal just use 10% and guess the difference backwards. 10% of $27.25 = $2.72 or if you want a website try http://www.onlineconversion.com/percentcalc.htm

multiply by .08

27.25 x .08 = 2.18
