Well my wife and I were married just 12 days before our 47th anniversary when she died of Liver cancer. I was holding her hand. she looked up at me said "You are my Lifeline" took a deep breath and died

My parents were married for 40 years. And then my Dad died. Otherwise they would still be married.
However, I do know of several couples who divorced after 30-40 years or so. From what I can figure out...two reasons.
1) They stayed together for the sake of the family, but were miserable the entire time. When the kids were finally gone and established, they finally parted ways.
2) One of them was afraid to be on their own. Then something major happened that made them realize either life was too short to waste on a crappy marriage, or they really didn't need the other person as much as they thought they did. And they finally got the courage to make the break.

My parents have been married for 35 years, all haven't been happy ones, but most have. Sometimes couples break up after all the children have gotten grown and moved out of the house. Some just have taken all that they can take. Ask your parents. That's the only way to find your answer to your question. But I know that it hurted.

My parents WOULD HAVE BEEN married for 30 years but my father died 3 years before that would have happened. And they would NOT have called it quits even if they got there.

My parents were married almost 50 yrs. They did not quit. They died but they were very much in love to the end.

My parents were married 42 years before my dad died at 66 years old. My mom died nine years later, when she was 69. There are six of us kids.
