I actually know a little boy named Axel (parents are from Germany). It's a great, masculine name! ;)
"Axl Rose," on the other hand ... not so much. LOL Just a tad too cheesy, I'm sorry to say, but if you want to honor the band, using Axel itself is a grand idea. Perhaps you could save Rose for a girl? Or even use something like Ambrose as a middle name, to avoid the overly-obvious cheesiness. ;) Short of spelling it as a name, rather than a band/singer, and NOT using a popular feminine middle name, I'd have to say I'm with your wife on this one.
Axel would be wonderful, though.
Good luck ... and congrats, by the way! ;)
Edited to add: Love the idea of "trying" it out yourself. Should at least give you an idea of the reaction Rose and the outright combo "Axl Rose" would get. LOL Thought I still stand by Axel.

You can't. If your wife actually used the word "horrified", I think you should let this one go if you're having a boy (and it sounds like you are). BUT-if you're having a girl, suggest Alexandra Rose, Alexis Rose, or something along those lines. It's a stretch from Axl, but it can always be a nickname that only Daddy uses.
Good luck!

Don't the poor kid will be made fun of so much. Get a nice puppy before the baby is born and name it Axl Rose so then the kid will grow up with a play-mate. If you want a rock-n-roll name how about something like Ryder.

Axl Rose's real name is William Bruce Rose. Maybe you could throw William or Bruce in there as a first name. William Rose sounds good to me. Billy is a name with a lot of rock history too. Or you could give him three names so his initials spell AXL. Or you could compromise by naming him Alexander Rose and call him Axl as a nickname without sticking him with an unusual name that might be mocked by prom dates or potential employers.
Or you could tell your wife it could be worse: you could be naming him Slash. Or Buckethead.

If you love Guns and Roses, what does that have to do with your son anyway? Like I'm sure you love other things in life, like maybe Harley motorcycles or Mercedes Benz or Ferrari's, but do those things have to be represented forever in your son's name? What happens, if down the road, another band comes along, that's way better than G and R, then what? Your son will be stuck in second place! It could happen! You know what, continue to love your favorite band, but find a name for your son that celebrates HIS existence, HIS life and future. Some name that will give him positive, strong connotations for a good and successful life. And what if he became a musician himself one day, do you think he'd want to be named after another musician? Wouldn't that put him in second place again? No, your wife is right to be horrified! Find a name for your son dedicated to your son and only for your son, from you and your wife. May you both bring your new life into this world on a positive, strong and loving note! At some point, you'll be able to introduce your son to G and R, and maybe he'll share your taste, but what if he doesn't? What if he prefers country to rock and roll, and his name is Axl Rose? Find a name that won't pigeon-hole your son into such a limiting category! Give your son wings to be whatever he wants to be, one day! Think about it, you'll find a name! And even ask your son now! Believe it or not, he already can sense who you are! Consult him, perhaps he'll help you find your answer! It's called the "sixth sense"! Good luck!

Listen to your wife. Try something a little different like liam instead of william but no Axl and rose for a middle name of a boy he is just waiting to be beaten up.

If she is "horrified" by the thought of her son being named Axl Rose, there's not a chance in hell that you're going to be able to convince her that this would be a "great name" for the new baby.
I don't blame her. He doesn't exactly have a spotless reputation. And I am a G&R fan too, though I wouldn't dream of naming my child Axl Rose.

I love Axl but maybe spell it Axil or Axell or Axol. But I think rose is to girly. Do something like Axl Wyatt
Axl Carter.
Save rose for a daughter.Maybe that will convince your wife.
