You're right: it IS insane. But you need to understand that we're dealing with two insane "inmates that are running the asylum" - George W. Bush and Dick Cheney, both of whom have their own agendas:
1. The Bush family had a personal vendetta against Saddam Hussein ever since the days of Desert Storm when George H.W. Bush was criticized, ridiculed and humiliated for not 'finishing the job' and ousting Hussein at that time;
2. Dick Cheney and his buddies at Mobil-Exxon covet all that OIL swimming underneath Iraq's sands so they can get richer and richer and richer feeding America's addiction to cheap, easily-accessible foreign OIL;
3. Ever since World War II, the giant U.S. military-industrial complex has recognized how profitable 'war' can be. So it bought up all the politicians, hired pricey lobbyists, and formed special interest groups to encourage and promote more 'war'. Thus, the U.S.A. became embroiled in the Korean Conflict; the Cuban Missile Crisis; the Cold War; Vietnam and Desert Storm. A new 'war' was necessary to boost the sagging profits of the 'war industry'. Now, thanks to gullible American taxpayers, companies such as the Carlyle Group, Lockheed-Martin, McDonnell-Douglass, Halliburton, and Sikorsky have made BILLIONS of dollars in new profits. From the very beginning, this 'war' was all about OIL and WAR PROFITEERING.
That's why George W. Bush and Dick Cheney - two former OIL men and "business" people - were selected to reside in the White House at this critical time in history (the Bildenberg conference decided that, probably in 1997 or '98; don't think for a minute YOUR vote had anything to do with the outcome of the election).
The Bush agenda was - from the very first day he occupied the Oval Office - to invade Iraq (for the three really lame reasons outlined above). Just as Hitler's evil agenda was all about a perfect Aryan race and a 1,000-year reign, Bush's agenda is about "getting even" and helping his friends and business associates get rich as American taxpayers drown in TRILLIONS of dollars of debt. Those poor black people that lost their homes in New Orleans mean nothing to Bush and Cheney (of course, if they all had been rich white folks, the federal government would have immediately spared no expense in helping those victims).
Finally, we're not 'rebuilding' another country. We realize that Iraq's civil wars have gone on for 1,400 years, and will continue for probably another 1,400 years. The U.S. will maintain a presence in Iraq until we've sucked every drop of OIL from its sands.
If that's not the case, WHY is the U.S. building the largest embassy in the world on a 104-acre site in downtown Baghdad overlooking the 'new' Iraqi puppet government installed by the Bush administration? That embassy will house 8,000 staff and employees in offices, retail shops, car repair facilities, restaurants, hotels, and boutiques. Do you think we'd build such a 'permanent' facility if we didn't intend on being there for decades - maybe even generations - to come??? -RKO 05/18/07

As bad as you think it is... the truth is much worse.
The government (i.e. the Bush administration) knew damn well that Iraq was no threat... they used America's anxiety over 9/11 to trash a country led by an arrogant bastard dictator sitting on a fat pile of oil. So we go in, overthrow the bad guy, and Cheney, Rumsfeld, Rove and Richard Perle all get filthy rich using tax dollars to pay their corporations like Halliburton and others to rebuild Iraq in America's image. They didn't count on a lengthy period of insurgency or sectarian death mobs or a near state of civil war between Shi'as and Sunnis. Oooops. It's a diabolical plan gone horribly wrong.

Because the ones elected into office are too lazy to even think about caring what happens that's why. Things won't change until this sad excuse of a president is either kicked out or thrown out of office for someone to do the job he wasn't even bright enough to even think about doing!

yes i think it is a big mistake. i think people in congress need to step up and take care of america, bring the troops out of iraq and leave iraq alone, and start caring about america. We need the help. People in america are suffering and yet the congress and bush are sending money to iraq and people in other countrys. I disagree what there doing. Spend the money on america and leave the other countrys allone. let them deal with there own problems. Its not our fault they haev a bad country. but yet a lot people have died in iraq and they want to send more troops over there!!??!?! what are they thinking? i think its crazy and i hope we get a good president who knows what the hell he/she is doing *excuse me for my lanugage*

america's president needs jesus and the lord our father in heaven to lead him into the light so he could guide his country to do the right thing and to love how god made us not to get jealous of how someone else is living or how someone else looks, or how someone else's future is going to be or how much money another country is making.
