Ok, bare with me here. I know a decent amount about tools and stuff. It is NOT a flathead screwdriver, not a phillips, and not an alan wrench-- I know this for SURE. The indent in the screw that you insert the tool into is SQUARE. I need to know what kind of tool I need to remove this kind of screw from my desk or I will go insane because it keeps locking itself!

It sounds like you are having problems with the gang bar and/or it's related linkage. You are looking for a Robertson screwdriver, a Canadian invention. The small size is # 1 green [color code], medium size #2 red [most common], and large, which is #3 black. There is also less common; smaller size, I think #0 yellow, but I'm not sure, and also a much larger size, likely a #4. It is a wonderful screw to work with, you stick it on the bit or screwdriver, and it stays there quite securely, and often you can run it in, using one hand.

There ought to be slightly slot on the realm of the backside in front of the knob merely get slightly screw motive force and push in on that and pull on the knob on a similar time, this would take off the knob and the screws are top there.

Home Depot has square drive bits that should work. They are made mostly for decking screws.
