I would like to know if playing music in a business place (such as my massage studio) infringes on the copyrights of the artists. I use alot of CD purchased music on my MP3 player and it is piped into all the rooms of my studio. I have been wondering if this is legal. Any insight would be appreciated.
Thanks, Michael.

Nope, Legal since you paid for everything. My Friend owns a car dealer ship and he uses a mp3 player with all of his cds and pipes it in though the wholoe building.

i hate to disagree with the others, but playing a CD or mp3 in a commercial store is exactly the same as a performance by a live band. very small establishments get a break, but it sounds like you have multiple speakers in use so you will need to pay a performance royalty. This is collected by ASCAP or BMI for the composer. They charge extra if you allow the patrons to dance!

Check out the websites for details.

Hi, if you're using songs from your puschased CD's throughout your studio, I see no legal issue with that.

As long as you don't take any credit for the songs (saying you wrote the songs, etc.) then you're not doing anything illegal.
