I did not know it was from eating bad monkey flesh. I thought it was from a monkey bite.
Anyway, I'm sure that if we didn't eat meat, there would be a lot fewer ailments than there are now. I'm a carnivore, but I do understand your position.
God doesn't punish.

1. There is no evidence that HIV was caused due to "eating infected monkey flesh".
2. There is no evidence that being a vegetarian stops you from becoming infected with HIV.
3. If people "had been vegetarians for centuries", half the population would have died out in the winter, because you can't freeze lettuce.
4. No where does it say that "God doesn't want us to eat animal flesh". (I know this and I'm an Atheist!)
Yes, we could speculate about your make-believe world all day long, but what would be the point?

first question... it probably would have been spread another way like if an infected monkey bled on an open human wound or something like such.. eating the monkey, i'm sure, was not the only possible way of contracting HIV.
second question... absolutely not. by the time Exodus rolls around in the bible (only the second chapter, right after genesis) God tells the Hebrews that it is okay to eat animal flesh so long as the blood is not consumed (and certain animal types are excluded from the list of things you can eat)

Who ate monkey flesh?? I seriously doubt God is punishing anyone. If that were the case then we could blame all the wars, famine and every single bad thing that happens on him.

i'm with you. production unit farming is atrocious. i do no longer individually thoughts while human beings hunt sustainably or strengthen animals in good situations. i understand the way human beings say it is incorrect to kill animals era. I won't argue with that. yet i might particularly push for more desirable situations of animals. I even have self belief we could continually consume way much less meat and consequently strengthen fewer animals than we do. it is basically the way I see it.
