He needs to empty both bottles and fill the 4 quart bottle first. Transfer the contents into the 7 quart bottle. Fill the 4 quart bottle again and fill the 7 quart bottle until full. Empty the 7 quart bottle and transfer the 1 quart left from the 4 quart bottle. Then fill the 4 quart bottle again. =]

Take the 4 QT bottle and dump it in the 7QT bottle. Then do it again, but it wont all fit... you will be left with 1 qt left in the 4qt bucket.

Not dump out the 7qt bucket. Pour the 1Qt from the 4Qt bucket into the 7qt bucket. Then fill the 4Qt bucket again, and dump it in the 7qt bucket.

the 7 qt bucket will have exactly 5qts in it.
