What liquid was in the heater? Have you unplugged it? Have you removed it?
Do you mean thermometer?

There should not be any liquid inside a heater. If yours had liquid in it, that means it has had a slow leak for a while. It stinks because it's been slowly leaking and cooking fish poop and I'm sure that would be pretty nasty smelling.

I doubt there is anything there that will harm the fish, just do a 25% water change to be sure and replace the heater, obviously.
