Rap seems to me like music developed by accountants. It's only for generating money. It was the same when I was in my teens. Groups like the monkees were fabricated to cash in on the music industry phenomenon IMO. Personally I think rap is very similar to square dance calling . Y'know? "Alleyman left and a do si do" Someone speaking in time to the beat. *ducks for cover*

Your question suggests that you have not recognized that you have bias. Racial bias has already influenced how you view things.

Look at this from a marketing perspective. The US population is more than 50% White. Hip Hop acts consistently sell records that rank high on sales list. It's not possible to gain those kinds of sales without selling to 50% of the population.

Since White people account for such a high percentage of the population, it's harder to see. They do listen to it.....the sales numbers don't lie.

My guess is that there is a subculture that tends to listen to rap/hip hop more, and that this subculture tends to be of low socioeconomic status and therefore occupy the same neighborhoods and school districts. Hispanics and Blacks still tend to be poorer than whites. They share the same areas and therefore acculturate with each other and share the same music.

Do whites listen to hip hop and rap less than Asian Americans? I think your question is misguided.

It's a generational thing... my kids and I have an agreement. They don't bust my nuts about Pink Floyd and The Grateful Dead, And I don't bust on them about Caput Shakur or Smallie Bigs (even though rap sucks!!!)

Because it isn't from their cultural roots.Ever wondered why whites or blacks don't listen to Tuba's deep chanting or marginalized Gypsies' vibrant flamenco?
Not exploited by record/radio companies.

actually, it seems that younger people in all races like this type of music. my nephews/nieces are crazy about it and they're considered caucasian. I don't know why anyone would like it....but that's my personal opinion, obviously not the majority.....
