I am new to sport bikes. I have a ninja650. Its fun and has enough power/torque to keep me happy for now. Ive rode for almost 700mi. in 2 months. The other day i merged onto I75 south of Tampa. I was following some guy in a mini-van going 40mph. I was trying to merge but the van wasnt speeding up. I got pissed and nailed it. I noticed as i leaned out to pass the bike sorta had a drifting feeling. I still felt that i had control and loved it. Was i wheeling or just unloading the front suspension.
As soon as I hit 4th I was at about 80mph and the front came down some and I had normal control.

it had a drifting feeling for two reasons the power going to the rear wheel was unloading the front some and the wind you got made it feel lighter than it actually was your bike doesnt have the power to pull a roll on wheelie in third ..

I know on a F4I 600, the bikes front end is so light, in three gear it will pop the front wheel off the ground with out a problem. I had a tractor trailers doing 60 beside me and a line of traffic behind him. Hit the gas in third gear the front wheel came off the ground and the next thing i know i was already up to 80 or so, then the front wheel came back down. I did that without even trying. I also weight about 150. It is possible that the front wheel was off the ground, I would recommend watching out for doing that i had a friend that did that once and caught a crack in the road. He is still alive but doesn't ride any more.

Both
Take your bike on a long straight road with no traffic.
Accelerate with the same aggression as you did passing the van (lean forward and get ready to let off on the gas).
That bike has more than enough power to lift the front wheel without pulling on the handlebars.

I highly doubt u popped even a slight wheelie going 40 mph. Its possible if youre leaning back, but I dont think that you would be stupid enought to do that when you know ure gonna be speeding up soon. Your suspension loosend up in the front from the acceleration and the increased wind resistance when u pulled out from behind the van.

I doubt you actually wheelied, thats just the feeling as the front end gets light. Try sitting up and gasing it...you should get the front end up and you'll see what I'm talking about.
