I've found that as I've become a young adult I've lost some interest in sports. As a kid I would look up to the athletes I watched because they were 'grown ups' and I wanted to be like them and become a great athlete like them. As an adult, I no longer look up to the players because I'm about the same age as them and have long since admited to my lack of athletic skill. I oftentimes find myself shaking my head at the young players who get in trouble with the law as if I were a dissapointed older brother. It really takes away from the enjoyment I used to have. Has anyone else experienced this? Have you found any ways to re-discover your joy of sports? (I guess this question is mainly directed at people 18+)

You aren't alone. People follow sports as children with a certain degree of innocence. Then they grow up and realize that their idols are real people, capable of less-than-heroic actions.

One tip -- don't get overwhelmed by off-the-field actions, such as holdouts, free agency, etc. Concentrate on the games. The on-field stuff has a ton of thrills available for the fan for those who are paying attention. Peyton Manning has become one of the great all-time QB's right before our eyes. Albert Pujols is on his way to the Hall of Fame. Tim Duncan is the biggest winner in basketball since Michael Jordan retired. Sidney Crosby might become the next great NHL superstar. These and many other athletes are worth your attention. There are plenty of great games and great teams out there as well.

I'm 30 years old and I have the same problem you have. Professional sports has evolved into players that we don't want to look up to. All they won't is more and more money. They get in trouble with the law and use drugs. The only thing I can tell you if you want to get interested in sports again is go to a game live. I enjoy watching racing at the track but cannot stand watching it on t.v. Another thing, watch UFC! It's the real sport. Alot better than baseball!

I have, but for different reasons. I don't follow it as closely because work and family now take precidence. As far as your feelings, I would try to follow the teams and players that you can respect instead of just those teams in your geographic area or those you've been accustomed to rooting for.
